Medics Ball 08!

Yeayyy, we're all half way there!!! ... on the 5 years journey of becoming a doctor at 2010!

It was the half-way ball I attended at Caledonian Hilton at the cost of 45pds! but it was all worthy, sooooo much fun!!! Count me in for the 5th year graduation ball! I'm definitely going again! Let's pray I can get to 5th year smoothly. =P
ALL READY TO GO, after 2 hours of decorating myself.
and my conclusion was: 做女人好麻烦,好累! seriously.

有时候,看似简简单单的一件衣服,几件首饰,其实都是女孩子们花尽心思的悉心打扮。相信这样的心情男生一定不能体会!所以男士们,在舞会上还得别吝啬于您的赞美!=)

I was so jealous of the guys in my block. they were all so quick with dressing up, even those wearing kilts! Hereby, presenting 3 fresh hot Teviot guys who can get ready in less than 30 minutes...

hahahaha, and James said he was looking on BBC for instruction on how to wear a kilt.

is that what BBC taught him too?

On our way there, we picked up Jenn and we were there on time. Hall was already filled with guests. WOW! everyone was looking so posh and classy with champagne in hand!
Amidst of all hotties, I found my twin...

pearl necklace, full black tube dress, metallic clutch, don't we look alike? yeahlar, other than she looked wayy more gorgeous, being taller, thinner and with long hair~~ =)

During champagne reception was our pictures taking time! How many times we get to dress up like these and attend a glamourous ball in med school right?

Next was being seated in the dining hall. I so like the atmosphere and deco in there. The settings was an ace, something I always thought will only come true in movies or dreams.

while waiting for the dinner to serve, we tablemates took a quick pic. apparently the waiter that took this for us had mild hand tremor. see, we all looked so blur.

Starter: tomato soup

me and Mr. Flatmate

I definitely look uglieee in the following pic, the only reason I put it up is to show off my bracelet. hehehe.

Main coursE: erm.... let me recall the name, corn-fed chicken breast, with thyme flavoured juice, risotto and aubergine or tomato. it was kinda good! but only if it comes in bigger portion, hahaha. my appetite is growing! tsk tsk.

After the main course, Jenn and I moved ourselves upstairs to the powder room. and on the way, we met Mr. Piano...

hahaha, I know you gonna say something.

next on, met Stephanie the hottie!!! So so so pretty, do u believe I used to stare at her in awe during first year PBL... haha, sounds lesbo right?

and Kat Joseph's definitely another hottie in med sch!

Dessert that came next was a quick step to heaven! chocolate mousse with vanilla ice cream. YUMMMMMMIEEEE! Too bad I have no pic with me. (will upload later on when Clem send it to me)

So, what's next??

It was the fun fun fun ceilidh time! another round of pics taking with newcomers who came in only for the after-party!

alamak, we both looked too ... aikz. no comment lar. =P

after a fantabulous night, finally got home at 1-ish. so famished and exhausted! but it was reli all fun fun fun fun. last few bits of camwhore before changing back to sleeping clothes..

Mr. Neighbour

Fellow flatmates

and my most favourite of the night!~

okie! time to sleep. tomorrow is all about getting back into the real world with the usual hospital and lectures routine! all in all, this weekend was double triplet quadraplet of fun!!!

Chinese New Year is here finally...

and I'm now happily listening to the happy-merry-jovial cny song...

hello people!!!

恭喜发财,万事如意,年年有余,心想事成!!!

yu-sang from buddhist soc potluck!

This year is probably the year with the most FOOD!

Look:
CNY 1st day, 1st dish: lobster mee

Starting from reunion dinner, we flatmates had Hot Pot - two soup bases, lots of fishballs, seafood esp sotong ( my favourite!), mees, etc. 50 pds in total! ganas! Tell you wat, Next time, if you have only 50 pds in hand, and you thought of getting rid of a person, don't bother hiring someone to kill for you (well, 50pds wun be enuf anyway). Just buy food! Lotsa food! throw at that person, can at least get that person well-injured. Thats when we realised how much food we can get with 50 quids, we both were sooooo exhausted to walk home from the chinese store. okok, rants aside.

On a happier note, it was a good gathering, probably the last home-based hot pot we have, as next yr all of us will be living with someone elses already.

Next day, CNY 1st DaY! Instead of angpows, card games, we had a 3rd-year-dinner in the Saigon. Sama (my Maldive's classmate), Suz, Me

Food was niCe! Too bad i got no pics with me now. recently I'd give up taking my own picture - so much of the after-effect of having to grow rounder n rounder on face.

See, smile becomes less confident, eyes getting smaller too.

Okok... back to the dinner, yea! so we had lobster, fish, chicken, rice, oysters, etc.

and the only imperfection was no dessert!! what a pity.

Also, another highlight of the night: Some of my classmates came in cheongsam! Oddly, to own a cheongsam has never occur to me. Probably bcoz of my aunty's brainwash for years, since young she kept telling me cheongsam is what she's going to wear on my dearie cousin's wedding occasion. Makes me think it's an aunty thing, or maybe tai tai la. But theirs on the dinner was cool! never thought cheongsam can look young too. =)

Fatt-choi (hair-look-alike-vege, to bring wealth) with oyster

Today, CNY 2Nd day. Lecture resumes. and I WENT! Got my 2nd medic hoodies, in RED! I thought it suits cny theme. =) Went shopping with Rachel afterwards, for medics ball accessories. She's probably the best person in Edin I can find, to shop with lah. I ended up buying myself so many unrelated stuffs, at least 4 pairs of earrings and some bracelets. Those newly bought accessories kept me well occupied for a few hours, simply by organising and rearranging them. hmm...I think I'm really a earring person. Staring at them can make me happy, somehow. But again, I have no idea myself if I'll actually wear them at all. Haha, but who cares!

see that black one? i so lurve it!

Tonight, we had buddhist potluck too. one of the best potluck so far, in terms of food varieties. everything taste so nice!! got yu sang, dimsum, duck, sushi, char-siu, chicken, dong fen, etc etc. To those that din come, haha, be regret! yummmieee! ^_^

LOU AH!!! as high as we can .... let's all be prosperous this year!

.

.

.

On a melancholic note, something unhappy happened today. I wasn't quite happy obviously. I think I'll not blog about it for now and leave it till next time, if I can still remember by then. *_* not good to spoil the cny mood afterall right?

Tomorrow, cny 3rd day. Medics ball! My first ball ever. and it's to signify that we'd come half way through the journey in the 5 years med school. So erm, another 2 and a half year more before graduation. To be frank, initially I was quite up to it. But today, I lost that mood. Strangely, it suddenly occur to me that attending it seems more like a task to complete rather than something am looking forward to. maybe bcoz these few days had been busy with gatherings, mere exhaustion. my stamina is declining!!! I shall see how it goes tomorrow...

as I blog along, I can hear my stomach starts to rumble. going upstairs to eat pineapple tart Pei and me made yest. hehe, thats all for now. HAPPY CNY everyone!!!

Rat is coming!

Happy Chinese New Year in advance!

Just in case your page hasn't finished loading the music on the sidebar, it's no longer that emo romantic Yiruma. It's the latest chinese new year song back home! by some astro talents i think... wasn't too sure also, haha, got that playlist from someone else.

I know it's 5 days more, but I just want to be in the mood! Although nothing much is happening here, I can so feel the atmosphere back home, as far as i know the CNY holidays has already started. be it for students or for working people. =) =) =) My thrifthy sister has been showing me her new clothes over the webcam, and I guess it must have been out of jealousy, I told her all she bought was UGLY. hahaha, I'm always the witchy sister.

Today, I had busy baking going on in the kitchen. Jenn n Matt made that beautiful banana bread and another one, duno wat its called, its the kind of bread u usually get in Italian restaurant and goes well with olive oil, Sooo remind me of the CNY baking HuHa back home! Although it's not my beloved pineapple tart, dried shrimp rolls or springroll from mum this time, it did at least give a little comfort to feed my cny mood. =) =) =)

On a less happy note, did you realised that you'd made me so angry upset today? I hate being skimped (if I use this word correctly, found this on a dictionary web one...k la, all i meant is being ignored and not being taken seriously) especially when you're out with your frenz. Hey, who wants to be that nasty gf who keeps calling her bf and check where is he or what is he doing? but if you promised to call back soon, i'm pretty sure 3 hours later isn't actually THAT soon. and waiting can get really get one mad u know?

davidson O' davidson

Davidson's Principle & Practice of Medicine is definitely a thought-provoking book. For that I don't mean constructive thoughts, like teaching me how to treat patient with chest pain nor to handle a heart attack. Instead, they command my body to...

ogle at hot guys

laugh at stupid jokes

game

and also disturbing people...

This evening, when I was staring at Davidson blankly, the idea of flying back during Easter strike me. haha. And so responsively my mind start operating at its top speed, processing on data like,

*monologue*

'okayy, so now what shall we do? yah, buy a ticket, ok. then we need to check when is ur dear godfather putting in money. =)

next next, how bout hols, when are they starting?

hmm... seems like late march. OH march!! that's like 2 months away. haha. so quick. but good... will be seeing you in airport very soon! hehez.

oh wait, how bout mum and dad? how shall I tell them? our med school is giving us an earlier holiday so I decided to come home early?
nonono, that won't do.

Or....or... or... i should just forget about telling them? sneaking quietly back into msia? ooouuuu...notti gal... '

haha. see. how thought-provoking it was. I'm getting quite excited by the whole idea. ^_^ seems like my daydreaming skills has grown better these days... enuff enuff. BACK TO STUDY!

ps: At times, I find it so difficult to tell no matter how badly I wanted to. Something that might already been known by ur whole world, are still doubtlessly best to be left unknown to both of ur closest persons --- parents. How ironic.

Post-Grey Syndrome

I was watching Grey's Anatomy properly, for the very first time. It was actually the seasons 3 finale!... And I saw Burke's wedding vow, soooo touching. I thought the scene was familiar and I could vaguely remember I first saw it from someone's blog. That's adelynn's i think. Well, the scene didn't make much sense last time but now, I'm so in love wiht it! So I went to her site, months by months, browsing thru her archieves and finally found it! =)

At the same time, something from her blog inspired me. It left me wondering wouldn't it be nice to have a brief history of yourself and one day you can look back and see how things change with time? Feelings and thoughts are the fastest changing things in mind and there're always the hardest to catch.
.
.
.
.
I thought I want to write down things that I'm now having in mind, about you. so that, if one day I'm too angry to remember, too arrogant to reminisce, or too ego to let go of my pride... there's always something here to gently remind me of how nice you used to be treating me...
There were little moments when...

you drove all the way up to the airport right after your work and pick me from a 24 hours long-haul flight and guess what, I was very excited! to see you again after 3 months of seperation.

you handed me birthday present even though it was supposed to be a month ago, just because we can't celebrate together, and... I was delighted for it's just so not like you, to actually care this much.

you agreed to drive 6 hours to bring my sick grandma home when you were already so exhausted from work simply because I asked you for a favour. Your kindness touched me, very much indeed.

you appreciated my efforts when I tried to cook you a meal and even though things didn't turn out that well.
Cooking using fire on stove just isn't the same as cooking on a hot plate I guess. Hmm.

you apologized after a quarrel, even though I was the one in wrong to not understand your situation - being caught in between your friends and me.

you gave in and made every effort to put the smile back onto my face again, even though it has to do with changing your habits and lifestyles. Although I didn't tell you in face but, I really appreciate that and you know what, it's ok to not do so, isn't loving someone all about loving him as he is?

you looked cute, especially in your sleepy face... like a little puppy. =).

when I confessed my mistake of which I was too wrong in doing, instead of blaming, you said, 'it's alright dear, we all made mistakes. it's really alright. =)' You made me broke down in tears. Touched by your forgiveness for my ignorance and stupidity, on christmas eve, you stole my heart.

you wished me merry christmas with a kiss when the clock struck 12.

when I was bombarding you non-stop with my thousand and one questions, you ignored all of them and held me tight in your arms, so tight that it cleared up all my doubts and make me want to lean on you like this, forever.

you unhesitatingly promised to get a computer & internet to go online to save me on spending money calling you, after I mentioned JPA money crisis; even though it could mean quite a burden to you financially at the moment. I know how difficult it is for you. To many, going online or having a computer might not a big deal, but I understand how far you'd come to reach this point. thanks.

you said it straightforwardly to let me take your new laptop if I like it. you don't mind using my old one. Dear, do you know how touched I was at that point?

you actually felt jealous and thought of the possibilities of losing your gf when someone else was treating her too nicely. hey, you are really cute for such moments if you haven't realised.

I'm really tired now. Time to go to bed and leave all the cardio stuffs for tmr, even it means leaving 4/5 of the book for the rest of 4 days before exams. So much of me being a slacker.

p/s: Considering this blog isn't known to many, but somehow I feel weird about leaving all these stuffs here openly for whoever passerby to read. hmm...locking it up might be an option to make me feel comfortable.

Packing...

I'm leaving again tomorrow, back to Edin the boring lovely city.

Go back have to pack luggage.

I thought this afternoon is time to start packing. But then, when I was about to start, only I realised there is nothing for me to pack. Alamak! spent the whole holiday didn't buy any stuffs yet.

Time for Giant the hypermarket.....

Wah, that place, really filled with ppl. Red colors and CNY musics everywhere. Walk walk walk, see all new year stuffs only.

End up,

Bought lotsa dried mee to solve my 'noon-alwiz-duno-wat-to-eat' dilemma.

Really nothing to put in already.

... and you've gone back, leaving me pretty moodless now.

When tomorrow comes, things will resume back to normal again. You are back into your 9-5 position again. Whereas, me returning to the '7 weeks one exam' cycles again. Yes, talking about it, another 2 weeks more to my next module exams. This time Cardio stuffs, stuffs I used to have lotsa interest with, but now aiyo, can't remember alot d... ish!

I'm just ranting my evening off writing senseless post to fill up the sudden emptiness. How time flies! 3 and a half weeks ago, it was the long awaited hols; and now, it's time to say goodbye again looking forward to the next holiday.

9pm now, you probably reach back home already. Take care there. Hope you like the apples. =) =) =)

Hey 2008!!!

Hello 2008! Writing new year resolution has been a norm to start a new year, but nah, this isnt my style. I'm more to the impulsive type, don't like being tied down by plans or perhaps it is something I should change in this year. Geez.

This is my 3rd winter escape from Edinburgh back in Malaysia, which also mean I never been to any hogmanay celebration in the Burgh yet, famously known as the world biggest new year celebration. Rumuors says this year will be the last hogmanay due to the Burgh's notorious weather which causes cancellation of the previous two years' events. No insurance company wants to take the risk anymore and therefore no more Hogmanay in the future! Hope it is not true. *_* It will be a shame to live in Edinburgh for 5 years and never been to any Hogmanay right?

Back to stay in Malaysia, on an exciting note, I'm glad that I came back! =) it has not been a wasted trip although it did cost a bomb and now i'm left with almost bankrupcy state. Wuhuhuhu.

This year-end hols has been great so far! Despite the fact that Muar is a boring town with nothing much to do except eating and cafe-ing (I'm inarguably fatter again), I do love spending time here with family and you! There were times you make me angry and feel abandoned, try to push my limit doing things I dislike, ignore me and my 1001 questions. There were also moments where you make me laugh, tolerate my unreasonable demands, hold me in your arms wiping my tears away, tell me not to repeat silly mistakes which end up harming no one but myself etc etc.

Langkawi used to be the Hey family's annual event. When me and my sis were still in secondary school, dad used to bring our whole family there at every year end. Therefore this time, I wasn't particularly excited as I firmly believe nothing else in Langkawi can surprise me anymore. Hehez, who knows!

Mangrove tour! Kilim is one out of the 52 Geoparks in the world. A must must see in Langkawi!

The landscape is very much similiar to stone parks in China's Yunnan/GuiLin where karst stones form in many sizes and shapes, the only difference is that these stones don't rise from grounds but from the water! Quite a cool view!

Pulau Kasut. Thailand is a mere 45 mins boat ride away from this point.

Langkawi is an archipelago rather than a single island. The number of Langkawi island has always been an interesting fact to learn. It is widely known as a cluster of 99 tropical islands. However at low tide, there are 104 islands in total under official record. Some islands tend to disappear at high tide.

Bat cave. Unlike other creatures, bat has no knee-like structure. Due to that fact, they cannot stand but only cling themselves onto walls.

Angmoh tourist: 'these bats are so cool....won't they fall off the wall?' Local Tourguide: 'hmm.... i would say keep your mouth closed.' other angmohs: hahahhahahaha. we all: -_-

According to locals, there are 2 types of eagles on the island, the local Langkawi eagle which is brownish in color and the sea eagle with white fur at the abdomen.

Langkawi is named after the word 'helang'. After the island got cursed by Mahsuri, it was left with 7 generations of poverty. Since eagle species was not involve in the false accusation of the princess, its tribe was not affected by the curse. Over deacdes, these creatures continue to expand in numbers and were dominating the island untill Langkawi was introduced to the world by Tun Mahathir.

At this point, cam no batt, so no more pics =( This fish farm pic was stolen from net. But, this is exactly what we saw la. One thing we find it strange, each time the boatman passed by 'residential' areas (houses that float n spread randomly on the sea), he slowed the speed down and drove through quietly. How considerate =)

Stingray here ganas also. Our guide hold a little fish's head and put it in water. The next moment, his hand came up with this 15kg stingray. He said it bites.

That black thing in hand isn't shit, it's sand, black sand!

Mahsuri's father-in-law was a general who was smart enough to come up with a brilliant idea to stop the Siamese troops from invading the island. He ordered his soldiers to bury all rice supplies in the island underneath this beach and then, burnt them off in hope that when the Siamese troops arrived, the shortage of food supply will forced them to leave the island quickly. In the end, the General's idea was proven a success. The Siamese army didn't fight long and speedily retreated. But very soon after that, the island ran out of food supply and many villagers including the General himself were starved to death! Bodoh!

Rice burning left the pristine white sand black.

Dinner time was my favouriteee! 3 consecutive nights of seafoods, haha. My super crave for sotongs, prawns, fish, lala since Sept were ALL cured! Thai style, Indon style, Kongpoh style, *slurp slurp*, it's heavEn I'm in! =) I wanted to take pictures wan, but too bad it was always when eveyrthing was cleared only I remember my second mission. Hehehez. Good food wor, UK don't have one, how to resist??? ^_^

Bi Yan Hu. A type of calligraphy art in China. I know it's quite random to post this together with Langkawi, but so happen they had this exhibition. So we decided to give it a shot. See the tiny mouth of the bottle? A tiny pen is put in through the mouth and everything we see were painted from inside! Cool huh? The master have to draw everything invertedly so that it appears normal from the outer view. As the bottle's mouth is narrow, it takes time for the paint to dry off before next color can be painted. This one took 3 months to complete and guess how much it cost? If not mistaken, 800 ringgit!!

Group pics. No beach view, left cam behind again. =( So, we left Langkawi with no beach pics. We went to this Cenang beach, accordingly the best beach in Langkawi! Ok la, quite pretty, the atmosphere was an ace! Sunny beach, coco trees, banana boat, jet ski, colorful bikinis, beautiful figures, super chun guys... haha! *Winks*. I turn darker too.

Although it was fun and exciting, I'm still glad that we didn't stay there any longer. Duty-free is a killer idea! It's like driving people to poison themselves slowly and gradually. I guess I won't be happy to see you doing so.

Living with someone 5 days without a break is a challenge! Having no one else but only each other to rely on, there were times for great arguments, conflicts and boredom not to mention tiredness at the end of the days and start finding everything annoying including the loved one.

See, stupid bus broke down! Stranded in Ipoh bus stop for 6 hours. =_=
Langkawi to Muar, Expected travel time: 9 hours. Actual travel time: 18 hours. Can reach London already la!

Sometimes it is good to not think and assume opinions for others, most things if we don't ask we will never know especially what others are thinking. Most of the time, we just gotta sit down and talk, Communication. =)

So, where is our next destination? Backpacking. Where? Vietnam? Sabah? Redang? There is a June to look forward to eh? ^_^

Happy New Year!

p/s: I think this is my very first time to blog properly about my trip. As I blog very seldom recently, there are times when I want to look back and reminisce, I can hardly find anything here. I thought this year I want to keep some record of my daily routine. Does that count as a new yr resolution? =)

This time, I got myself thinking...

This time, not your words that got me thinking, it's me myself.

As far as I learn, it will be nice for couple to share their thoughts, opinions, feelings and perceptions. To grow old together and go through ups and downs hand in hand, not like most of the time we are hoping for each other to decide things for us, but at least you can feel someone is always there for you and to back you up. Happy things, sad things, you will always be the first person in mind.

It seems impossible to love just only one person throughout life. But, there can only be one person to live life with, so I have been told. What is love? I've been wondering alot lately. Is that the geographical distance between causing love difficult to be expressed? Or it's the thinking differences that make people difficult to share thoughts and feel the same in a relationship? I don't know.

Parents blessings is always comforting, well at least for me. Sometimes, I wonder the fear of bringing a rs to the knowledge of parents might suggest an underlying pathology. Could be the fear that they might object. could be the worries that they might have negative comments on you. could be the uncertainties of how am i going to actually tell or why should i tell. could be...lots lots more. Does all that mean the confidences to us is not there? Or does that mean our communication has problem and we can't talk things out together and back each other up? I really don't know. Hopefully when winter comes, answers will gradually surface, together with christmas wishes. Fingercross. =)

ur words been sticking in my mind...

You got me thinking again...

Was it a wrong decision?

Is it going to be a dead end again?

hmm...wish not.
Yet, I can't think of anything that can be done at the moment.

That suits the indecisive me....haha

The medical specialty for you is.... Internal Medicine

Internal medicine is better than any of the specialties. When a patient comes in for a check-up, you can send them home with a clean bill of health. And when a patient comes in with high blood pressure, you can prescribe one of a wide variety of drugs, including beta-blockers, diuretics, and ACE inhibitors. And when a patient comes in with some other problem, you will be able to refer them to one of a long list of your colleagues.
